10 Communication Resolutions for 2020

Every year, people resolve to make the coming year their “best ever” by making resolutions for better behavior. This year, I challenge you to make at least one communication-based resolution to improve your professional and personal life in 2020.

Here are our top communication resolutions.

1. To talk instead of text whenever possible.

2. Not to use the phrase, “I don’t care.”

3. To eliminate, “I’ll try,” from your vocabulary.

4. To stop using discounting/qualifying statements, “You did a great job, but. . .”

5. To be more open minded and ask questions, instead of shutting people down when they’re “wrong.”

6. To eliminate vocalized pauses such as um, uh, like, etc.

7. To say “Thank You” more often.

8. To put away your phone when someone is speaking to you face-to-face.

9. To stop talking so much, shut your mouth and listen to people.

10. To give more positive feedback to your kids, spouse, and/or coworkers.
